Overview
This course provides an introductory overview of psychology and explores how psychological principles can be used to understand everyday behaviour and mental processes. It introduces students to key areas of psychology, including biological influences on behaviour, learning and memory, sensation and perception, human development across the lifespan, personality and individual differences, and social psychology. The course emphasises psychology as a scientific discipline while focusing on practical applications that help students make sense of personal experiences and social interactions. Designed for non-psychology majors, the course aims to develop psychological literacy and demonstrate the relevance of psychology in daily life and across a range of real-world contexts.
On completing the course, students will be able to:
- CLO1: Explain fundamental psychological concepts related to behaviour and mental processes (PLO1)
- CLO2: Apply basic psychological principles to everyday personal, social, and academic situations (PLO2)
