AI for Longevity: Keynote Engagement at HIDA 2026
Prof. Dr Angela Lee Siew Hoong, Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and a member of AI4PEP, delivered a keynote speech at the 2nd International Conference on Health Informatization and Data Analysis (HIDA 2026) in Nanjing, China.
Her talk, 鈥淎I for Longevity: Redefining Health and Aging in a Connected World,鈥 highlighted ongoing research on AI adoption and emerging healthcare technologies, including work related to AI4PEP. The event provided a platform to engage with international researchers and further strengthen Sunway University鈥檚 presence in digital health and AI.

He showcased the TB Watch platform, which combines real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and community partnerships to improve patient follow-up and reduce treatment default rates.

Dr Hasyirul Bin Hashim, of the Communicable Disease Branch (CDC), Ministry of Health Malaysia, and AI4PEP Malaysia, presented TB Watch, an innovative digital platform developed to strengthen tuberculosis surveillance and improve treatment adherence. The system provides real-time alerts for missed appointments and medication doses, uses predictive analytics to identify patients at high risk of treatment default, and fosters collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to address socioeconomic barriers such as transportation and nutritional challenges. Through these integrated interventions, TB Watch has enhanced patient monitoring and follow-up, contributing to a reported 40% reduction in tuberculosis treatment default rates in Malaysia's Federal Territory, demonstrating the value of AI-enabled digital health solutions in supporting tuberculosis control and public health outcomes.
